What is a Notary Public?
The notary public commission is a venerable position, created in the late 1800s to help prevent fraud. Notary publics witness the signing of important documents and verify the identity of the signer(s), the signer(s) willingness to sign the documents, and the signer(s) awareness of the contents of the document or transaction.
The type of doucments included but are not limited to what are commonly notarized are:
- Powers of Attorney
- Affidavits
- Trusts
- Bonds
Specific Notarial Acts Include:
- Taking an Acknowledgement
- Witnessing or Attesting a Signature
- Administering an Oath or Affirmation
- Certifying or Attesting a Copy
- Certifying an event has occurred or an act has been performed
Can anything be Notarized?
In short, No. To be a valid, legal notarized certificate the document needs to meet at least the following requirements:
- Venue – State and City the notarial act is completed
- Completed Body of the certificate
- Place for the Notary to sign
- Place for the Notary’s Seal

What is a Notary Signing Agent?
Notary Signing Agent (NSA) is a Notary who is specifically trained to handle and notarize loan documents. Purchasing and or refinancing a home and property has many steps but the one all buyers and sellers have face to face contact with is the Signing Agent. The Signing Agent makes sure that all the documents are executed and notarized correctly to ensure that the closing goes without a hitch.
